Castle Story Looks a Lot Like Minecraft, but It Looks Awesome Anyway

The idea of Minecraft copycat games is almost as old as Minecraft itself. In fact, at this point, it’s probably safe to say that “Minecraft copycat” is its own genre. But that’s totally fine. I mean, Markus “Notch” Persson, Minecraft’s creator, isn’t upset about it, and he even seems to encourage it to some extent.

Enter the next in line: Castle Story.

Well, actually, calling Castle Story a Minecraft copycat might not be entirely fair. I mean, it definitely has the premise of “voxel-based world where you mine and build and defend your creation at night.” But it also takes place on flying islands, features RTS elements, and has some of the cutest videogame protagonists since Sackboy.

I mean, the idea alone of Minecraft meets RTS is intriguing in and of itself, but the team behind the game, Sauropod Studio, put together a cute little video showing off some of the gameplay you can expect from Castle Story, and it looks pretty awesome.

You can check out the video for yourself on their Kickstarter page, which, by the way, met it’s goal of $80,000 within five hours. And there’s still time to donate, so if you want to get into beta, or even the “prototype” version (a very stripped-down, very early build of the game), you should probably throw some cash at them.

Oh, and did I mention that this project has the blessing of Notch himself on it? Yeah, he tweeted a link to the Kickstarter. Don’t believe me? Check it out right here.
