I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1 – Forgive the Title and Slaughter Some Zombies

During a recent browse through the Xbox Live Marketplace, I stumbled upon an indie game entitled I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1 by Ska Studios. Curious, I downloaded the demo and jumped right in.

It turns out, it’s pretty addictive and surprisingly polished twin-stick shooter, despite its title. Think Geometry Wars, but with hoards of zombies, strings of number/letter combinations, blobs that multiply after taking damage, and deadly clouds.

There are various weapon pick-ups, from laser beams to rockets to flame throwers. Each offers a unique gameplay advantage/disadvantage balance trade-off, and, since they drop rapidly, you are constantly swapping out your weapon for something new. This helps break up the repetitive nature of the gameplay while offering visual flourishes.

Possibly my favorite part of the game, however, is the cheesy rock soundtrack that — at least in the demo — tells you to buy the full game ’cause it’s only a buck.

A solid time-sinker that requires a surprising level of skill, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1 is a rousing good time. If nothing else, at least give the demo a shot.
