The Smash Bros. amiibo tournament rages on, with Nintendo mascot Mario facing off against the Princess of Hyrule herself. While Mario has a considerable amount of princess experience, his background probably won’t help him with an opponent like Zelda. (For the full description of the tournament rules, check out this link.)
Both Mario and Zelda are competent fighters, and it’s hard to say which amiibo will emerge victorious. All we can do is watch and wait. You can check out the match in the videos below, and you can find our commentary below that.
Zelda starts off the first round strong, but her constant move-spamming gives Mario the chance to make a comeback. With the one-two punch of the Brain Age assist trophy and the Daybreak, the plumber is able to make short work of the princess.
The second round proves that both Zelda and Mario are survivors. The match goes more than two minutes without a single KO, and Mario manages to dodge both a Final Smash and a Dragoon attack. Zelda makes several impressive recoveries herself, but they’re not quite enough. Although things remain close until the very end, Mario is the final victor.
We didn’t think Zelda was playing at her best, so we gave her an extra round to prove her stuff. With the pressure of the competition off, she really brought her A-game, and she managed to defeat Mario in a matter of minutes.
Unfortunately, Zelda’s splendid performance isn’t enough to keep her in the tournament. It’s Mario who will be moving on to the next round. Will he be the amiibo to win it all? Only time will tell.
