Story of Seasons Has Taught Me More About American Horror Story Than I Ever Wanted to Know

american story of seasonsWere you aware that American Horror Story features the same frat house that appeared in the 1997 film Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Did you know that the show’s title and credits font, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, is named for a Scottish architect?

I do, and it’s all because I want to play Story of Seasons.

When Harvest Moon developer Marvelous Entertainment decided to start co-publishing their games in North America, they had to make a few sacrifices. Like, say, the right to use the name “Harvest Moon” in that region. However, Marvelous wasn’t about to let something as simple as a name deter them.

Their new game, which they’ve titled Story of Seasons, has everything a Harvest Moon fan could ask for. You can harvest crops, catch fish, and raise all kinds of animals. You can get married and have children, then build an impressive house for your family to live in. There are even brand new elements, like an exotic wildlife safari.

When I search for “Story of Seasons love interests,” I’m bombarded with articles about Emma Roberts and Evan Peters (who are apparently a real life couple). When I search “Story of Seasons characters,” I’m provided with a list of American Horror Story characters. Even searching for Story of Seasons on its own brings up an article about the connections between American Horror Story‘s seasons.

Of course, American Horror Story isn’t the only show I’m learning more about. After searching for “Story of Seasons crafting,” I learned that Hodor and Bran won’t be appearing in Game of Thrones‘s 5th season. Searching for “Story of Seasons bunnies” brought me to the Max and Ruby Wikipedia page, where I learned the Bulgarian name for the show is Макс и Руби.

max and rubyThe last time I had this much trouble finding out information about a Harvest Moon game, it was 1996 and I didn’t have home internet access. It’s not that I mind the random TV trivia — it’s kind of cool to know that American Horror Story has managed to decapitate Kathy Bates on multiple occasions. I just wish it didn’t come at the expense of information on a game I really want to play.

And even though I’ve never seen a single episode of American Horror Story, I could probably kick your butt in a show trivia contest.
